The Federal Resource Design Specialist is responsible for providing product consultation, ideation, and proposal development to the OFS federal team. This role plays a key part in positioning OFS products strategically within the federal market, whether by contributing to the ‘Basis of Design’ for an upcoming bid or supporting an active bid submission. This specialist role will be part of our Design Services team and is vital to our Federal sales team, providing technical expertise to develop superior furniture solutions that balance best value, competitive pricing, and adherence to bid specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively (both written and verbal) to present product solutions and strategies.
  • Creating and executing deliverables with the Federal Team for RFQ and Market Research submissions.
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a technical capacity to support federal sales initiatives.
  • Manage multiple projects across various geographic regions while meeting deadlines.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure bid accuracy and compliance with specifications.
  • Support sales efforts with technical documentation, renderings, drawings, and specifications.
  • Provide guidance on industry trends, material selections, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal procurement processes and guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Assist in developing and maintaining a technical database to streamline proposal development.
  • Train and support internal teams and dealers on federal contract resources and tools
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree (preferred in Design or related field) or equivalent industry experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience with AutoCAD, 20/20, CET, rendering software, and specification tools like Project Spec.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience working with and supporting Federal Government agency projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong understanding of reading and interpreting floor plans.
  • Exceptional project management and time management skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • General knowledge of materials, design trends, and commercial furniture industry practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets).
  • Knowledge of government procurement processes and federal business operations.
  • Ability to develop response packages for sustainability compliance documents like SCS and BIFMA LEVEL, along with technical and salient characteristic documents required for Federal requests.
  • Understanding of how to use Federal Compliance documents such as UFC (United Facilities Criteria), Berry Amendment, and Division 12. 

Position Location

Position located at OFS Corporate offices, 1204 E. 6th St., Huntingburg, IN or our Dallas showroom. Remote work is a possibility.

Future Grown & Aspirations

As digital platforms evolve, the Federal Resource Design Specialist will be instrumental in developing and managing a comprehensive technical database. This database will be a central repository for sustainability documents, technical sheets, project designs, compliance materials, and customizable master catalogs. The specialist will work alongside the Federal Program Manager to ensure all documentation remains updated and accessible.

Additionally, this role will focus on guiding dealers in effectively utilizing the complete OFS product portfolio while providing training and resources to regional teams. The position will encompass increased responsibility in bid analysis, product positioning, and structuring OFS product characteristics to maintain competitiveness in RFQs and federal market research requests.
